Director of Quality
Join a leading supplier of thermal management products and high-powered LED solutions with over 25 years of design and manufacturing experience.
The company specializes in providing engineered solutions for customers in a broad variety of industries. The company is an industry leader and technological innovator in the manufacture of electric heating elements, thick film and custom resistors, metal core circuit boards, and LED light engines and assemblies for OEMs.
The company serves over 30 markets, the largest being medical equipment, followed by automotive resistors and sensors, food service equipment, laboratory and instrumentation equipment.
Location- Kansas City- Missouri area
The Director of Quality reports directly to the Chief Executive Officer and is charged with developing and maintaining a system to assure that all products manufactured by the organization meet customer specifications and achieve superior quality and reliability levels. This position will work closely with leaders in Manufacturing, Design Engineering & Manufacturing Engineering.
• Develops and implements a quality production program to ensure conformity of purchased material and finished product.
• Will be responsible for managing and directing the following Quality Assurance activities:
• Corporate wide Quality Assurance Systems for all locations including 3 production facilities in Leavenworth Kansas, and one production facility in Erie, Pennsylvania, along with sales and design offices currently in Chicago and planned for future locations
• Initially will evaluate the current quality organization of the company and recommend changes to instill a “sense of urgency” for product and process improvement to support the company’s rapid growth. This is a key leadership position that must take the company’s quality system to the next level to meet it’s current and new customer requirements and expectations•
• Maintenance, support, and continuous improvement of the Company’s ISO 9001:2000 Registered quality system
• Administration and support of the Corrective Action and Preventive Action Systems, and Quality Improvement efforts of the company related to customer satisfaction and cost of quality
• Improve the current Supplier Quality program
• Evaluate current metrics of quality, as well as review and develop new metrics to allow the continued improvement of the company’s performance
• Prioritizing and directing resources to facilitate continuous improvement and assist the advancement of the company’s Lean Enterprise initiatives
• Manage the company’s safety agency listings & registrations, which includes, UL, TUV, CSA, and related agencies, working closely with the Design engineering group
• Manage current quality staff of approximately 10-12 associates including quality engineers, auditors, inspectors, and clerical associate
Skills
Education
• Minimum of a BS degree, MS or MBA ideal; prefer Mechanical, Manufacturing, Quality, or Industrial Engineering disciplines
• Minimum 5 years of ASQ, CQE, CRE, or CQM certification
Experience
• Prefer background in electrical mechanical products or electronic assembly
• Extensive background with Lean Manufacturing concepts
• manufacturing processes involve component assembly, circuit etching, electronic related screen printing, electrical component assembly, wire harnesses, swaging, welding, soldering, plating/coating, machining, aluminum foundry, SMT electronic assembly, and thick film micro electronics
• The following industry backgrounds are ideal; semiconductor, medical devices, pharmaceutical and electro-mechanical or electronic design/assembly
• 10 or more years experience in quality assurance
