Senior Geologist

Join a world class leader in the energy industry for a critical Senior Geologist position at their headquarters in Houston, Texas.  In 2007, the revenues were at $65B and they are continuing to expand.   

Overview:

This position will be in the Worldwide Unconventional New Ventures organization within Worldwide Exploration and will be located in Houston, TX. The Unconventional New Ventures Group is charged with identifying and securing new resource-type and unconventional plays both internationally and domestically. A successful candidate will analyze seismic and subsurface information, including petrophysical and operational data, to identify prospective areas for new unconventional plays. Ability to accurately compare the relative technical, commercial and strategic merits of competing opportunities will be critical. Skill set includes structural and facies mapping, seismic interpretation, seismic and sequence stratigraphy, basin analysis, some knowledge of either Coalbed Methane (CBM), Gas Shale or fractured shale plays, and basin risk analysis. Commercial and business development skills will be a plus, and basic reservoir engineering knowledge is important. In addition, a strong working knowledge of either North America geology, or of a particular international hemisphere, would be helpful in allowing the group to compare and contrast opportunities.

The position will require close interaction and collaboration with the following internal groups: Production, Drilling, Business Development, Land/Commercial, Conventional New Ventures, Technology, Exploration and Economics/Evaluation. International travel is possible.

Responsibilities:

1. Generate and evaluate new prospect and play opportunities using local and regional data. Make recommendations for drillable plays and prospects by providing geological/geophysical and risk analysis.
2. Creative yet technically sound integration of variable datasets to identify unconventional opportunities.
3. Organize and participate in peer reviews for resource estimates and prospect rank.
4. Monitor and analyze industry activity in targeted areas and recommend appropriate actions. Recommend action on farmout and new play opportunities.
5. Interface with all necessary internal groups and organizations to apply best practices to opportunity recommendations.
6. Represent the company's interest in dealing with partners, vendors and competitors.
7. Clearly communicate and document project results and recommendations.
8. Establishes and maintains appropriate professional relationships within the industry and with other organizations and individuals to expand professional knowledge and develop useful source contacts.
9. Mentor and develop less experienced staff as necessary.

Qualifications:

Degree: Bachelors Required, Masters Preferred
Major Discipline: Geology
Years Experience Required: Minimum 8 years total industry experience
Travel Required (%): 10-25% possible
Computer Proficiencies: Intermediate PC skills are required in Microsoft desktop suites. Risk Analysis, Geolog, Geographix, and Landmark proficiency are important.
