Overview:
A Geographic Information Systems (GIS) Analyst position is available in our Worldwide Exploration Land Organization. The successful candidate may be hired as a regular or temp to regular employee. This person will be an integral part of exploration and development efforts, with active leasing and drilling programs in various areas of interest. The Land GIS Analyst role will support all land mapping activities, including acquisition or creation of spatial and related data, reporting, and output of hard copy and electronic map products.
Responsibilities:
· Creation and maintenance of standard map projects in ArcMap utilizing sophisticated annotation, and data queries. Projects will present ownership and/or competitor position, expiration and drill schedules, lease and contract types and well types. Mapping software utilized will include the suite of ESRI ArcGIS products (ArcCatalog, ArcView, ArcMap) and P2's Tobin LandGIS.
· Assist staff and management with preparation of mapping presentations and data for both internal and external business and technical review (trades, acquisitions, divestitures).
· Work with internal clients to knowledge share internal and external data sources, and potential for creation, conversion, or maintenance of data through use of additional technical tools (i.e. Tobin TGS, or LandGIS/ Legal Pad, Geo-Calculator).
· Quality Control check of proprietary polygons to ensure quality data is being provided on maps. Assist or troubleshoot polygon creation as needed.
· Support data management. Work with LandGIS and other mapping communities within the company to ensure continued data management processes. Coordinate land mapping priorities, and provide GIS application and process support.
· Provide informal mentoring and/or training to casual GIS users, lease analysts, and other GIS analysts.
· Possess strong mapping background in geology, geography, or engineering discipline, with knowledge of land, and understanding of public land grid and relative projections.
Qualifications:
- Possess or pursue an understanding of the Tobin Lease and Contract data, or other equivalent land database, and how it correlates to the spatial data. Possess or pursue experience with database query and extraction via Datamart reporting application.
- Computer Proficiencies: ESRI ArcView; ArcCatalog; ArcMap and other mapping applications; Connecting to oracle databases (SDE, TOW and IHS Wells); Geo-processing, transforming metadata (shape file, coverage, ASCII, imagery, drawing exchange formats; Excel and Microsoft applications.
- Work Experience: Five or more years of ESRI ArcView; ArcCatalog; ArcMap GIS application experience supporting Land Professionals, Geologists, and/or Engineers.
- Outstanding language and writing communication skills are required, in addition to talent for graphically communicating by means of preparation of quality illustrations.
